The Teatro Bretón is set to immerse audiences in the 47th Theatre Festival this weekend, showcasing two high-calibre theatrical performances. The festival will commence on Friday, 9 October, with 'Gigante', followed by a repeat performance on Saturday, 10 October. On Sunday, 11 October, the festival will conclude with 'Todo terminará para Navidad', coinciding with the eve of a national holiday.
'Gigante' will kick off the theatrical weekend at 20:00 on Friday, presenting a compelling narrative inspired by the renowned English author Roald Dahl. The play delves into Dahl's struggles as he grapples with the fallout from a recently published antisemitic article while revisiting the trials of his final book. Faced with a confrontational interlocutor, the author of beloved works such as 'Matilda' must decide whether to apologise or risk his reputation. Directed by Josep Maria Mestres, the cast includes José María Pou, Victòria Pagès, Pep Planas, Clàudia Benito, Aida Llop, and Jep Barceló. The production has received three Olivier Awards in 2025, including Best Show.
Following its debut on Friday, 'Gigante' will be performed again on Saturday at the same time. Tickets range from €9 to €23, and the show runs for 2 hours and 45 minutes, including an intermission.
On Sunday, the festival will feature 'Todo terminará para Navidad' at 19:30. This intense and evocative performance, presented by the prestigious Argentine company El Rayo Misterioso, combines physical theatre with striking imagery to explore the mysteries of existence. The play presents a rapid succession of actions, symbols, and dramatic impulses that reflect the current state of a society marked by absurdity, madness, erratic thinking, and indifference. The performance lasts for 1 hour and 15 minutes, with ticket prices ranging from €8 to €14.
