Last weekend, wrestling took centre stage in Torrejón de Ardoz with the hosting of two major events: the Madrid Open of ADCC Spain and the DMC Experience. Both events were attended by Miriam Gutiérrez, the councillor for Sports and Tourism.
The Madrid Open took place on Saturday at the Jorge Garbajosa Municipal Pavilion, attracting nearly 1,000 competitors from across Spain. Participants included athletes from Brazilian jiu-jitsu, freestyle wrestling, judo, and mixed martial arts (MMA). The ADCC, or Abu Dhabi Combat Club, is a no-gi grappling discipline that has been gaining popularity worldwide. Its rules prohibit striking, focusing instead on holds, takedowns, and submission techniques.
On Sunday, the José Antonio Paraíso Municipal Pavilion hosted the DMC Experience, a charity sports event organised by local resident Ana Gervás, a champion of both Spain and Europe in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Attendees were treated to two masterclasses, one led by Héctor Meco, an MMA fighter, and another by Ezequiel Delgado, a European champion in no-gi Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Following the training sessions, live music was provided by the band Ático 11, along with food trucks offering a variety of refreshments.
All proceeds from the DMC Experience will be donated to Asociación Diverses, a Torrejón de Ardoz-based organisation dedicated to promoting real inclusion, accessibility, and the rights of individuals with functional diversity and/or neurodiversity.
