Torrelavega council commissions pedestrian bridge project over Óscar Freire velodrome

The council of Torrelavega has taken a significant step towards improving safety for users of the Óscar Freire Sports Complex by commissioning the technical assistance needed to draft a project for an elevated pedestrian bridge over the velodrome. This initiative responds to the growing demand for a secure route for athletes, families, and other visitors to the complex.

Sports councillor Nacho González and Works councillor José Luis Urraca have announced the project, which aims to define the features of the future bridge and its integration into the sports complex. The proposal includes a wooden bridge that will blend with the surroundings, featuring a span of 13.5 metres over the velodrome and a clearance height of 4.5 metres.

The bridge will be located next to the southern parking area of the complex, adjacent to the athletics track and field 2. The final specifications will be determined during the drafting process. Both González and Urraca Casal have emphasised that hiring engineering and architectural services is a crucial step towards fulfilling this demand, providing the council with the necessary technical project to prepare for the bridge's construction.

The contract stipulates a three-month execution period. Simultaneously, the council will commission a geotechnical study to assess the characteristics of the terrain and define the construction solution. The municipal objective is to have the project completed by the end of the year.
