Valencia's intelligent tourist destinations network strengthens growth and cooperation

The Board of Directors of the Intelligent Tourist Destinations Network of the Valencian Community held its 22nd working meeting on 25 September, discussing future actions, updates to its indicator system, and new institutional cooperation initiatives.

Valencia's intelligent tourist destinations network strengthens growth and cooperation

The Intelligent Tourist Destinations Network of the Valencian Community (DTI-CV) is reinforcing its growth and expanding cooperation with other regions. During its 22nd working meeting on 25 September, the Board of Directors addressed upcoming initiatives, updates to its indicator system, new membership applications, and various institutional cooperation efforts aimed at advancing the smart transformation of tourist destinations in Valencia.

One key focus of the meeting was the analysis of applications from new entities wishing to join the network, including tourism consultancy firms, technology companies, and organisations specialising in research and innovation. Notably, a collaboration proposal from CENID, a centre specialising in Artificial Intelligence and Language Technologies, was highlighted. This proposal aims to develop research and innovation projects with network destinations, promote pilot projects based on AI, share knowledge through workshops and training sessions, and facilitate joint participation in R&D calls.

Advancements in the DTI-CV indicator system

Another significant topic discussed was the update of the DTI-CV indicator system, a crucial tool for assessing the evolution of destinations and guiding their transformation towards smarter tourism management models. The update process has been ongoing for several months, involving the participation of a methodology working group. Following the meeting held on 22 July, a new version of the indicator dashboard was circulated, with plans to continue adapting the supramunicipal model and management tool, aiming for implementation by the end of the year. This update is complemented by the efforts of various network groups and direct technical assistance to destinations through meetings and support for municipalities and supramunicipal entities in the Valencian Community.

Upcoming activities for destinations and professionals

The Board also reviewed the calendar of activities planned for the coming months, which includes new working groups, specialised training, and webinars on strategic areas for intelligent tourism management. Among the upcoming initiatives is the DTI Manager Course, scheduled to take place in person in Vinaròs on 19 and 20 October, and online on 27, 28, and 29 October. The programme will also feature webinars on emerging technologies for resource management and social listening in tourist destinations. Additionally, the network will hold its General Assembly on 14 October in a hybrid format, focusing on the state of the network, its activities, the indicator system, and the work of the Sustainability Working Group. This schedule will also include training in applied Artificial Intelligence for the sector and tourist destinations, with basic courses in Castellón and Alicante and advanced courses in Benidorm and Valencia during November and December.

Cooperation with the Community of Madrid

Another highlighted topic was the institutional exchange and cooperation with the Community of Madrid regarding intelligent tourist destinations. This meeting will share the main characteristics and evolution of the DTI-CV model, as well as the Valencian Community's experience in developing a collaborative support system for destinations based on innovation, governance, sustainability, accessibility, technology, and knowledge management. The exchange will also provide insights into initiatives developed by both autonomous communities and explore potential areas for cooperation and knowledge transfer, particularly in destination management, capacity building, and the development of innovative solutions.

Through these efforts, the DTI-CV continues to establish itself as a collaborative space for knowledge and innovation applied to tourism management, enhancing support for destinations and promoting the transfer of methodologies and best practices. The 22nd meeting of the Board of Directors was held online on 25 September, allowing for progress on the network's upcoming lines of work and action agenda for the coming months.
