The sixth edition of the 'Hacemos Barrio' cycle will offer 30 free conferences aimed at enhancing community knowledge and participation. This year, the events will be held not only at the usual Centro Ágora but also at the Diputación's Auditorium, the Instituto de Estudios Albacetenses, and the Unicaja Auditorium.
Llanos Navarro, the Councilor for Quality of Life and Effective Participation, emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between institutions and neighborhood movements to promote citizen engagement. José González, the provincial deputy for the Social Area, expressed pride in the Diputación's involvement, stating, "neighborhoods are also built with culture, knowledge, and meeting spaces."
Virgilio Cencerrado, the organizer of the cycle, assured that this edition maintains the quality of previous ones, having expanded from ten to thirty conferences due to institutional support. Carmen Sánchez, president of the Federation of Neighborhood Associations of Albacete (FAVA), highlighted the role of these associations in cultural dissemination and the need for cultural activities to reach all neighborhoods.
The conferences will run from October 8 to May 26 of the following year, with nearly half of them taking place at the Diputación. The program includes a diverse range of topics, featuring speakers from various fields, including veterinary science and dermatology.
Antonio Caulín, director of the Instituto de Estudios Albacetenses, reaffirmed the institute's commitment to making science accessible to the public. He noted that the collaboration with 'Hacemos Barrio' aligns with the institute's mission to bring scientific and cultural knowledge to the community.
Sánchez also acknowledged the volunteer efforts that make this initiative possible, emphasizing that the associations work to bring cultural and participatory initiatives to all corners of Albacete.
As the cycle continues to grow, Cencerrado expressed gratitude for the support from institutions and highlighted notable speakers, including Fabiola Jones, a South African veterinarian, and Eduardo Jario, head of Dermatology at the Albacete Hospital.
