Vigo to honour Humberto Baena and José Luis Sánchez-Bravo, executed by Franco's regime
The mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero, announced that the city will commemorate Humberto Baena and José Luis Sánchez-Bravo, executed in 1975, through the installation of memorial plaques.
Abel Caballero, the mayor of Vigo, has announced that the city will honour the memory of Humberto Baena and José Luis Sánchez-Bravo, who were executed in 1975 during Francisco Franco's dictatorship. This decision was communicated to the sister of Baena and the sister and nephew of Sánchez-Bravo during a meeting on 13 October 2026.
The mayor stated that the city council will ensure that the innocence of the two young men is remembered by the citizens of Vigo through the installation of commemorative plaques. In addition to the plaques, the city will issue an institutional declaration aimed at rehabilitating the memory of both victims of Francoism.
Caballero also mentioned that there will be further tributes to honour the legacy of Baena and Sánchez-Bravo, reinforcing the importance of historical memory in Spain.
