The mayor of Vigo recently participated in the presentation of the upcoming Spanish Under-14 Athletics Championship, which will be held at the Municipal Athletics Stadium of Balaídos on 17 and 18 October. The event will see the participation of 439 young athletes, comprising 240 boys and 199 girls born in 2013 and 2014.

During the announcement, Mayor Caballero highlighted the impressive turnout, with athletes from 12 autonomous communities and 56 teams, each consisting of eight athletes, alongside 76 coaches and delegates. Local representation will come from the Real Club Celta and the Sociedad Atlética Vila de Vigo.

“The entire city is invited to witness this extraordinary championship,” the mayor stated. The presentation also featured contributions from several notable figures, including Manel Fernández, the councillor for sports; María Elena de Francisco Melón, Pablo Figueroa Comesaña, and Fito Fernández, president and coaches of the Sociedad Atlética Vila de Vigo; Angel Serantes, president of the Real Club Celta; and David Posada, the Vigo delegate of the Galician Athletics Federation. Posada expressed gratitude to the Concello for its support of athletics and noted that this is the first time in 20 years that the competition has been held in Vigo.
