Xunta de Galicia increases social spending in 2027 budget with focus on housing

On October 6, 2026, Miguel Corgos, the Conselleiro of Finance and Public Administration, announced that the Xunta de Galicia's budget for 2027 will continue to enhance social spending. This increase will surpass the average growth of the budget and will include improvements in housing access, which is the top priority for this legislative term.

The Galician government remains committed to transforming the productive model by investing in research, development, and innovation (I+D+i), as well as improving training to boost business growth. Corgos emphasized the importance of the upcoming Xacobeo 2027, stating, "We want it to be the best in history."

This morning, Corgos met with economic and social agents to inform them about the budget preparation process for 2027 and to assess the evolution of the Galician economy. He noted that the economic outlook is better than initially expected, as previously announced during the approval of the Spending Ceiling.

According to Corgos, Galicia is set to achieve seven consecutive years of economic growth, with a more positive trajectory than the national average in the post-pandemic period. Regarding the labor market, he stated that after stabilizing the average unemployment rate below 10% for the past two years, it is expected to approach 8% this year and fall below that figure next year, nearing historical lows.

Corgos also confirmed that 2027 will mark the fourth consecutive year of a balanced budget without the need for new debt. He announced that the Galician autonomous administration has already allocated the necessary funds to increase public employee salaries by 5%. Additionally, the first chapter of the budget will include agreed salary improvements in the educational, healthcare, and judicial sectors.

In conclusion, the Conselleiro of Finance and Public Administration emphasized that this stability will allow the Xunta to present its budget proposal on time, while in Spain, the current legislative term ends without a budget in place for three years.
