Casa Gralla courtyard opens to the public for the first time

The courtyard of Casa Gralla, located within the Prosegur building in L'Hospitalet, has opened to the public for the first time as part of the 48 H Open House Barcelona festival. This event, taking place on 24 and 25 October, showcases unique architectural spaces, many of which are typically closed to the public, and encourages discussions about architecture and the transformation of everyday spaces.

This year marks the tenth participation of L'Hospitalet in the Open House BCN. Marta Piera, the coordinator of Open House in L'Hospitalet, stated, "Each year we aim to present a broad range of architecture in the city, from contemporary and historic buildings to rehabilitated spaces and unique sites like Casa Gralla."

The history of the Casa Gralla courtyard dates back centuries. It is the cloister from the original Casa Gralla, one of Barcelona's most notable Renaissance buildings. Following its demolition in 1856, the courtyard was the only part preserved, undergoing various uses until it was permanently relocated to the Prosegur headquarters in L'Hospitalet in 1996.

The public opening has attracted a significant number of visitors, allowing them to explore a lesser-known aspect of L'Hospitalet's architectural heritage. As part of the Open House Barcelona initiative, L'Hospitalet has opened 15 architectural spaces this year and offered three guided tours across different neighbourhoods in the city.
