CCOO foundation denounces cancellation of 'Federico' play and demands explanations from the Junta

The president of the Jesús Pereda Foundation of CCOO in Castilla y León, Luis Fernández Bayón, has expressed his strong support for the theatre company Proyecto 43-2, praising the impeccable track record of its director, María San Miguel, and her team.

The play titled 'Federico. No hay olvido, ni sueño: carne viva', which had been publicly announced since March as part of the programming, was scheduled to take place on 24 October at the Experimental Hall of the Miguel Delibes Cultural Centre in Valladolid. However, the performance has been cancelled by the Fundación Siglo para las Artes en Castilla y León, a public entity under the Ministry of Culture, led by a figure affiliated with the Vox party.

The cancellation has been justified on “questionable technical grounds,” leading to a complaint being filed with the Public Prosecutor’s Office over potential ideological persecution. Fernández Bayón is demanding clear explanations and full transparency from the Junta of Castilla y León regarding the true reasons behind this cancellation.

He stated that no public administration has the right to decide which works can be performed based on their political, historical, or social content. Public culture must unconditionally guarantee “plurality, diversity, and freedom of creation.” The president reiterated his unwavering commitment to the artists of Castilla y León and the public's right to free culture, insisting on holding public authorities accountable for any hint of censorship.
