CD Tenerife will pay tribute to their historic player Alberto Molina in their next two matches following his recent passing. Molina, a legend of the club and the player with the most official appearances in the blanquiazul shirt, will be remembered this week by the Tenerife entity.
The club will wear black armbands during the Copa del Rey match against Badajoz on Wednesday and will observe a minute of silence on Sunday during the game against Andorra at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium, where Molina is already commemorated with a permanent tribute.
“Time passes, but legends are forever,”
reads the inscription accompanying door number 5 at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López, dedicated to Alberto Molina. The tribute includes a photograph of the historic footballer and the number of matches he played for CD Tenerife, which stands at 413. This recognition took place last April in celebration of his 83rd birthday.
The Gran Canarian leaves behind a legacy as one of the club's greatest emblems, having played more official matches than any other player in the blanquiazul shirt. Juan Galarza, assistant to the presidency of CD Tenerife, describes him as “the great legend, the first legend of the Tenerife entity,” highlighting his contributions since arriving from Gran Canaria.
Memories from former teammates underscore his significance. José Juan Gutiérrez, a former CD Tenerife player, recalls the camaraderie shared with Molina during their time together: “Every Sunday after matches, we would go to Tegueste to enjoy a stew that was prepared for us. Living with Alberto felt like being family,” he explains.
David Amaral, a former player and coach, emphasises the magnitude of Molina's career: “We are talking about 413 matches, which is very difficult to surpass. This speaks volumes about what he meant to this club; he is a legend.”
CD Tenerife will honour Alberto Molina in their next matches, wearing black armbands on Wednesday against Badajoz and observing a minute of silence on Sunday against Andorra at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium. This venue will forever keep alive the memory of one of the great names in the history of CD Tenerife. As David Amaral summarises: “Time passes, but legends will always be there.”
