Chiclana will host a double performance of the play 'You Must Live' at the Modern Theatre on 30 October, aimed at both students and the general public, with free admission.
The performance, presented by the Exilio Tarab company, combines theatre and dance and is designed to raise awareness of the Palestinian people's reality, promote solidarity, and encourage reflection on the situation in Palestine and the defence of human rights.
“As part of this initiative, and with the aim of bringing this reality closer to new generations, we invite educational centres in Chiclana to participate, offering students the opportunity to engage in a space of encounter, culture, dialogue, and reflection,” said Susana Rivas, the delegate for International Cooperation.
The event will take place on Friday, 30 October, with two performances: a morning session exclusively for students from local educational centres at 11:30 am, and an evening session open to the general public at 8:00 pm. Those interested in attending the evening performance can collect tickets at the Modern Theatre from 28 October during box office hours, with a maximum of four tickets per person.
'You Must Live' tells the true story of Norwegian playwright Marius von der Fehr, who is exiled in Spain, and addresses themes such as freedom of expression, censorship, exile, artistic creation, and dissenting voices, placing the Palestinian issue at the heart of its narrative. Through the protagonist's personal experience, the play invites audiences to question power dynamics and reflect on the role of art in confronting contemporary realities and conflicts.
This initiative is part of the awareness-raising and education efforts led by the International Cooperation Delegation and is linked to the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, commemorated on 29 November each year.
“We believe that culture and the performing arts can be tools to connect us with other realities, generate questions, and foster dialogue and reflection. Therefore, we invite the public to participate in this activity, which will provide an opportunity to engage with the Palestinian reality and reflect on solidarity, freedom, human rights, and the dignity of all people,” added Susana Rivas.
