Mérida's municipal government is set to conclude its application period for €2 million in aid aimed at supporting local commerce, tourism, and hospitality sectors. The deadline for submissions is tomorrow, October 9.
The funding initiative includes two distinct lines of support, each allocated €1 million. The first line focuses on stimulating retail consumption through discount vouchers. Eligible retail establishments can receive up to €2,000 in aid, which translates to 100 vouchers worth €20 each, applicable for purchases of at least €40. The redemption period for these vouchers will last for two months.
The second line of funding is designed to support self-employed individuals and businesses in the hospitality and tourism sectors, which encompass restaurants, take-out food services, travel agencies, official tour guides, and accommodation providers in Mérida. Aid amounts will vary based on the number of employees: €500 for businesses with one to two workers, €1,000 for those with three to six, and €1,500 for companies with more than seven employees. This funding will cover expenses incurred from January 1 to July 31, 2026.
Laura Iglesias, the delegate for Commerce and Entrepreneurship, emphasized the importance of this initiative in bolstering local economic activity. She urged businesses that have not yet applied to take advantage of the remaining time. “We encourage those who have not yet submitted their applications to do so within the established deadline,” Iglesias stated. “The city council is committed to supporting our local shops and self-employed individuals.”
To qualify for the aid, businesses and individuals must meet specific requirements, including registration in the municipal registry “DeMérida,” having a valid operating license or in the process of obtaining one, maintaining a fiscal address in the city, and being up to date with tax obligations and social security contributions.
The application period began on September 28 and ends tomorrow, October 9. This initiative reinforces the city council's ongoing commitment to supporting the local economy through direct consumption incentives and aid for key sectors.
