Espacio Abierto Launches Its Autumn Performing Arts Program

Espacio Abierto, a cultural center in Madrid dedicated to children and adolescents, has unveiled its autumn programming, featuring a diverse range of performances designed to engage audiences of all ages.

The season kicks off in October with two original productions: the premiere of Aquí solo hay paisaje by Lupe Estévez on October 11, and Como si ya hubiera pasado, directed by Cross Border Project, on October 16, 17, and 18. The former is a theatrical piece inspired by an interactive installation that invited audiences to create a scenic backdrop for storytelling using shadows. The latter explores the connection between contemporary adolescence and the experiences of the participants' grandparents through interviews and personal narratives.

In November, the program will feature Obertura by the company 10 Hz as part of the elPetit festival, along with Concierto de nanas de invierno by Christian Fernández Mirón, which is based on workshops focused on lullabies. December will see the arrival of El fruto. Lo que crece en común by Arturo Babel, showcasing a collective creative process from the Utopías en Flor cycle, alongside the return of the Luz de invierno festival, which includes Plenilunio by Fàbrica de Paraules and Sombras del mundo by Asombras Teatro.

The programming places a strong emphasis on early childhood, particularly through the elPetit festival, which will feature performances designed for younger audiences. The festival aims to introduce children to the world of theater through engaging and interactive experiences.

Additionally, Espacio Abierto will serve as a venue for the Muestra Internacional de Cine Educativo (MICE), celebrating its tenth edition in Madrid. The event will showcase short films created by children and youth, as well as feature-length animated and fictional films by professionals on October 24, 25, and November 15, 29.
