On October 7, 2026, Guillem Ginard, the Tourism Minister of the Consell de Mallorca, visited the municipality of Marratxí for a meeting with Mayor Jaume Llompart and the municipal government team. The purpose of the visit was to gain firsthand insight into the local concerns, needs, and proposals regarding tourism activities.
This visit is part of the Consell's initiative to strengthen direct contact with the island's municipalities, listen to their realities, and collaboratively address issues affecting the tourism development of each area.
During the meeting, various topics related to tourism in Marratxí were discussed, including opportunities to promote the municipality's heritage, identity, and resources. The focus was on responsible and sustainable tourism that aligns with the quality of life for residents.
“For the Consell de Mallorca, it is essential to listen to the municipalities and understand their concerns and opportunities directly. Each municipality has its own reality, and tourism policies must consider this diversity,” stated Ginard.
Ginard emphasized that “Marratxí has much to contribute to Mallorca's tourism strategy, and we want to understand its vision and needs to move forward in a coordinated manner. Tourism cannot be managed solely from an office; it must be done by listening and working together with the town halls.”
The significance of Marratxí's clay heritage
The Consell de Mallorca highlighted the municipality's clay and ceramics heritage as a key cultural and tourist asset, showcasing an essential part of Marratxí's identity and the authentic Mallorca. This rich heritage, rooted in history and local craftsmanship, also presents an opportunity to diversify the cultural and tourism offerings, encouraging visitors to explore a year-round Mallorca beyond the typical tourist season.
Mayor Jaume Llompart expressed gratitude for Ginard's visit and interest in understanding the municipality's reality. “It is important for institutions to listen to each other and for us to convey our concerns and needs as a municipality,” he remarked.
Llompart highlighted that “Marratxí has its own reality and characteristics that we want to promote from a tourism perspective, which is why collaboration with the Consell de Mallorca is crucial for establishing joint working pathways.”
This meeting is part of the ongoing efforts by the Insular Governance Directorate of the Consell de Mallorca to maintain a permanent dialogue with town halls, identify the needs of each territory, and promote a coordinated tourism policy that considers both development opportunities and the unique aspects of each municipality.
