The Local Government of Lugo has approved four new urban development licenses aimed at enhancing residential, business, and tourism projects in the city. Among the approved initiatives is the construction of a new building with 15 homes in Plaza Nemesio Cobreros, the renovation of an industrial facility in O Ceao, the expansion of the Forum Hotel, and the second phase of the rehabilitation of a building on Calle do Teatro.
Details of the Projects
- Residential Development: The first project involves demolishing an existing structure to build a multi-family residential building in Plaza Nemesio Cobreros, which will include 15 homes, commercial spaces, a garage, and storage units. The estimated budget for this project is €2,371,472.15.
- Industrial Renovation: A license has also been granted to Automóviles Pérez Rumbao S.A. for the renovation and adaptation of an industrial building located at Avenida Benigno Rivera, 68, in O Ceao. This facility will be used for vehicle sales, exhibitions, and workshops, covering a usable area of 2,576 square meters and a constructed area of 2,856.50 square meters, with a planned investment of €972,157.62 and a 12-month execution period.
- Hotel Expansion: The Forum Hotel in Ceao will undergo renovations to expand its facilities, including the transformation of underutilized spaces. The project will create independent tourist apartments on the first floor, with a separate access from the hotel. The investment for this project is estimated at €653,082.22, with a completion timeline of 36 months.
- Building Rehabilitation: The fourth license pertains to the second phase of the rehabilitation of a building located at Calle do Teatro, number 6, which will be converted into a guesthouse and restaurant. This project has received favorable reports from municipal Architecture, Archaeology, and Engineering services and will include archaeological oversight during construction. The anticipated investment is €763,075.24, also with a 36-month execution period.
Support for Adapted Taxi Services and Social Entities
The Local Government also approved a funding initiative for adapted taxi services aimed at individuals with physical disabilities or reduced mobility, allocating €5,000 for this purpose. Eligibility requirements include residency in Lugo for at least one year and a permanent physical disability of 33% or more.
Additionally, the council has established guidelines for grants to non-profit organizations in the social services sector, increasing the total funding to €76,000, double the initially planned amount of €38,000. These grants are primarily intended for local non-profits, with some provisions for organizations from other areas that implement projects in Lugo for individuals at risk of social exclusion.
New Services and Market Enhancements
The Local Government has initiated the procurement process for the supply and installation of a management platform for refrigerated lockers at the Plaza de Abastos (Market Hall), with a total investment of €25,410. This new service will allow customers to place orders and pick them up later, even when the market is closed, addressing the needs identified in the Lugo Market Diagnostic Study.
Furthermore, the council has approved the rental, setup, and dismantling of decorative Christmas lighting for the Cemetery and the Municipal Market, with a maximum budget of €42,409.90. This initiative aims to enhance the attractiveness of these locations during the holiday season and support local economic activity.
Personnel Proposals
The council proposes to activate the employment lists from recent selection processes to fill vacancies efficiently when necessary. Additionally, a tribunal will be appointed to oversee the selection process for a permanent position of Traffic Education Monitor within the municipal staff, through internal promotion.
