Lugo's Municipal Band to Perform at San Froilán Festival in Plaza Mayor

The Municipal Band of Lugo, a cultural emblem with over 150 years of history, will return to the San Froilán festivities with a repertoire of popular and festive music, sponsored by Caixa Rural Galega.

Lugo's Municipal Band to Perform at San Froilán Festival in Plaza Mayor

The Municipal Band of Lugo, a key cultural institution in the city with a history spanning more than 150 years, will perform at the opening of the San Froilán festival on Sunday, October 4, at 1:30 PM in the Plaza Mayor's bandstand. This performance follows the festival's opening speech and is sponsored by Caixa Rural Galega.

The band will present a program featuring popular music, pasodobles, festive pieces, and other compositions that reflect the spirit of the San Froilán celebrations, marking the start of the local patronal festivities.

This performance not only revives a cherished tradition in Lugo, where the Municipal Band has long been associated with concerts in the bandstand, but also strengthens the connection between the band, the city, and the San Froilán festival.

A Cultural Legacy

The Municipal Band of Lugo is recognized as one of the cultural symbols of the local government and has played a significant role in the city's cultural life, participating in various public celebrations and events over the years. Its history is closely tied to the San Froilán festivities and the cultural identity of Lugo.

Commitment to Local Culture

The band's participation in the San Froilán opening reflects the current government's commitment to enhancing local culture and supporting the municipality's cultural resources. This initiative aligns with the recent revival of the Municipal Music School, which has resumed activities after a two-year hiatus, aiming to promote musical education in the city and continue the work of the band’s musicians, who also serve as instructors at the school.

Thus, the band’s performance in the bandstand signifies more than just a return to the festival program; it also emphasizes the importance of the Municipal Band in Lugo's cultural landscape and highlights the efforts made by the local government to support music and the arts.

Since 2016, the Municipal Band had not been included in the official San Froilán program for the opening day, although it did perform during the festival last year, which was not part of the official schedule.
