On October 6, 2026, the 'Encuentros con Artistas' program, organized by the Santander City Council, will host a new session at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Santander and Cantabria (MAS). This event will feature artists Teresa Moro and Blanca Tejerina.
The meeting, which starts at 6:30 PM and is free until capacity is reached, marks the second gathering in the intergenerational talks series. This initiative brings together artists from various generations and professional backgrounds to share insights into their practices, interests, and creative processes.
Noemí Méndez, the Councillor for Culture, has encouraged residents of Santander to attend this event, highlighting the value of a format that fosters direct dialogue between artists and the public. “We want MAS to be a space for conversation, to share questions and discover how artists work and perceive their surroundings,” Méndez stated. She emphasized that these meetings provide an opportunity to understand not only the finished work but also the experiences, decisions, and concerns behind it.
The session will be coordinated by Laura Cobo, and each artist will present their background and the processes that shape their work, followed by a discussion among themselves and with the audience. While both artists draw from careful observation of their surroundings, their interests lead them to different territories. Teresa Moro focuses on objects, inhabited spaces, and the stories they may hold, whereas Blanca Tejerina directs her attention to vegetation and how it is perceived, represented, and transformed.
Their respective works will serve as a starting point to explore themes related to motif selection, the connection between experience and creation, and the decisions involved when an image transitions to paper, canvas, or space. Méndez has highlighted the importance of dialogue between these two different trajectories and generations, noting that while affinities between artists are intriguing, their differences and what each discovers in the other's work can also raise interesting questions.
About the Artists
Teresa Moro
Born in Madrid in 1970, Teresa Moro studied Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid and furthered her education at the Chelsea School of Art and Design in London. Her practice, centered on painting, has long focused on everyday objects and the emotional connections we establish with them. Her works often feature furniture, clothing, and spaces linked to their inhabitants, paying attention to both their forms and the unspoken narratives they suggest.
Recently, she has turned her gaze towards modern artists and authors, exploring their studies, libraries, and the objects that accompanied them. Her work has been exhibited in solo shows at venues such as MARCO in Vigo and CEART in Fuenlabrada. This month, she will present 'Colección particular' at CentroCentro in Madrid, a project arising from her encounters with artists through the objects and spaces of their studios.
Blanca Tejerina
Blanca Tejerina, born in Santander in 1997, develops her work through drawing, painting, and sculpture. Her practice, rooted in observation and lived experience, has explored diverse themes, including boxing in 'Dancing With' and the human relationship with nature in 'De la rama una cambera.' The latter exhibition stemmed from her explorations of the forests and meadows of Cantabria, where tree canopies transformed into charcoal drawings, and other botanical images transitioned onto fabric or into wire and stainless steel.
Drawing traverses these material and scale changes, allowing the artist to investigate the distance between forms that grow in nature and those we construct from them. In 2024, she presented 'Dancing With' at Galería Mecha in Santander and has participated in collective exhibitions, including Artesantander, where she received the National Award Pancho Cossío 2025 in the sculpture category.
