Torrejón de Ardoz, October 5, 2026 – The city council marked the International Day of Older Persons with a special event at the José María Rodero Municipal Theatre, which included a posthumous tribute to Charo Andrinal, a dedicated volunteer.
The event was attended by Mayor Alejandro Navarro Prieto and the Councillor for Older Persons, Ana Verónica González. It was dedicated to the memory of all older individuals who have passed away, with a special focus on Charo Andrinal, who spent years teaching dance to many seniors in the city.
“We want Torrejón to be a city where our older residents can live longer and better,” said the mayor during his speech, inviting attendees to enjoy the performance prepared for the occasion.
The celebration took place on October 1, with the aim of highlighting the active role of older persons in society and combating negative perceptions associated with aging. The event included a sensitive moment when a plaque was presented to Andrinal's family in recognition of her dedication and service to the community.
Mayor Navarro emphasized that Charo “is now part of the history of our older residents and of Torrejón de Ardoz,” conveying the city's affection and gratitude to her family. He also encouraged attendees to take part in the various cultural, sports, and leisure activities offered by the city, including workshops, dance, excursions, thermal baths, and the University for Older Persons.
Additionally, the mayor highlighted the “No Older Person Alone” program, which currently provides weekly calls to 384 seniors, particularly those experiencing unwanted loneliness. “We want Torrejón de Ardoz to be a city where our older residents can live longer and better,” he reiterated, encouraging continued participation, learning, sports, travel, and new experiences.
