VI Festival Contemporáneo concludes with Ensemble Sonido Extremo performances

The VI Festival Contemporáneo is entering its final week with two closing concerts by Ensemble Sonido Extremo, a music group based in Extremadura, Spain, known for its commitment to diverse contemporary classical music. The performances are scheduled for October 10 at Espacio La Granja in Tenerife and October 11 at Teatro Guiniguada in Gran Canaria, both conducted by Jordi Francés.

The festival, organized by the Government of the Canary Islands as part of the FIMC (Festival Internacional de Música Contemporánea), will also host a discussion titled 'Music and Architecture' on October 8, along with an environmental action on October 11.

As a highlight of the festival, Ensemble Sonido Extremo will present a selection of works from five contemporary Spanish composers, including José Luis Perdigón, who will debut his piece icebergs melt at night. The concert will showcase a range of aesthetic styles from recent decades, reflecting various creative perspectives that engage with musical traditions through reinterpretation and transformation.

The performances are set for October 10 at 7:30 PM in Tenerife and October 11 at 7:00 PM in Gran Canaria. Tickets are priced at 5 euros and can be purchased through the festival's website and the venues' box offices.

#endiálogo: Music and Architecture

The festival's programming will also include a session of the #endiálogo series, focusing on the relationship between music and architecture, featuring musicologist José Luis Besada. This event will take place on October 8 at 7:00 PM at the Real Academia Canaria de Bellas Artes (RACBA) in Tenerife, with free entry. The session is part of the Architecta Musica cycle at the RACBA and is titled 'Xenakis: Towards a Polymath Music', exploring the dual architectural and musical contributions of Iannis Xenakis, a pivotal figure in 20th-century contemporary creation.

Acoustic Ecology

Lastly, the Festival Contemporáneo invites the public to participate in The Sound Memory of the Landscape, an acoustic ecology experience organized in collaboration with Ben Magec-Ecologistas en Acción. This event encourages exploration of the relationship between music and nature through listening dynamics, experimentation with natural elements, and collective musical creation in dialogue with the environment. It will take place on October 11 at 10:00 AM at Finca Samsó in Santa María de Guía (Gran Canaria), with free prior registration available on the festival's website. Transportation will be provided for registered participants, departing at 9:00 AM from the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium.
