On October 8, 2026, the UNED (National University of Distance Education) in Vigo inaugurated its 2026-2027 academic year, offering a total of 13 university degrees alongside various other training opportunities. The event was attended by Abel Caballero, the mayor of Vigo.

This year, the institution is welcoming approximately 9,000 students across all its programs, with 1,300 enrolled specifically in university degrees. The local government supports the UNED with a direct annual subsidy of €225,000, in addition to providing free use of space at the Palacio de Congresos Mar de Vigo, valued at €600,000. This brings the total financial support for the UNED to €825,000.

The UNED in Vigo offers a diverse range of 13 university degrees, including:

  • Business Administration and Management (ADE)
  • Political Science
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Law
  • Social Education
  • English Studies
  • Geography and History

In addition to these degrees, the UNED also provides access to other educational formats, such as the University Extension Classroom, micro-degrees, and summer courses.

During the opening ceremony, Mayor Caballero highlighted the importance of decentralizing the UNED's operations from its previous location in Pontevedra to establish a new presence in Vigo. He noted that this change has alleviated the need for residents of Vigo to travel frequently to access educational resources.

“The UNED in Vigo has a unique presence,” Caballero remarked, emphasizing the institution's role in the local community.
