Vigo mayor supports protest at Vilalaura Nursery School over lack of support teacher

06/10/2026 The mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero, has voiced his full support for the educational community at the Vilalaura Nursery School, which has been protesting since the start of the school year for the regional government, known as the Xunta, to fulfill its commitment to provide a support teacher as specified in the planning of the Education Department.

Caballero conveyed this support during a meeting with representatives of the Parents' Association (ANPA) of the Vilalaura Nursery School. He emphasized that the educational community is justified in its demand for the 13 teachers listed in the department's catalog. He stated, “The Xunta does not want to provide the missing teacher, which creates problems in the care and education of children aged 3 to 6 years, despite the fact that it was the Education Department that determined the staffing needs.”

According to Caballero, the removal of a teacher is an attempt by the Xunta to cut costs in education in Vigo.
