Anxo M. Lorenzo emphasises the importance of making museum work accessible to all citizens

The director general of Culture, Anxo M. Lorenzo, inaugurated the exhibition Nuevos Ingresos en el MAPOU: Dentro del museo at the Provincial Archaeological Museum of Ourense. He highlighted the importance of "bringing the work of museums closer to all citizens, the central objective of this project."

Lorenzo, representing the Consellería de Cultura, Lingua e Xuventude, explained that the initiative, which runs until 30 December, allows visitors to understand the journey of an item from its arrival at the cultural facility to its display or storage. He noted that the exhibition reveals the behind-the-scenes work involved, such as inventory, cataloguing, and graphic documentation.

He praised the exhibition, which features 41 items, for illustrating how each new acquisition can change meanings and position museums as places of inquiry through which we can build and preserve our history and heritage. Among the pieces on display are Roman artefacts such as a fibula and a ring, paintings, ceramics, religious carvings, a prehistoric axe, and a medieval jug.

Nuevos ingresos en el MAPOU: Dentro del museo is part of the Xunta's 2026 exhibitions programme, which aims to promote cultural engagement in Galicia. This year, the programme includes over 70 exhibitions across 18 key cultural and artistic facilities, demonstrating the Galician government's ongoing commitment to cultural access, citizen education, and the promotion of Galician creativity.
