The City Council of Ciudad Real has announced the initiation of a project to upgrade the table tennis facilities at the Quijote Arena. This decision follows the approval of an investment by the Board of Directors of the Municipal Sports Patronage (PMD), with a budget set at €83,000.
The improvements aim to bring the facility in line with national regulations, enabling it to host competitions and matches for the second division of Spanish table tennis, which the Ciudad Real Table Tennis Club ascended to last season.
Pau Beltrán, the city's Sports Councillor, explained that the project will include enhancements to the ceiling and thermal conditioning of the venue, allowing for table tennis practice throughout the year, regardless of the season.
To minimise disruption, the council has coordinated with the Table Tennis Federation to schedule the works during the Christmas holidays, ensuring that local club training and official matches, as well as activities at the Municipal Table Tennis School, are not affected.
Once completed, the upgraded facility will meet all necessary requirements for Ciudad Real's table tennis to compete at the national level.
Continued investment in local sports
The renovation of the table tennis area at Quijote Arena is part of a broader strategy to enhance sports facilities in Ciudad Real. Earlier this week, the Local Government Board approved a project for the covering of two courts at the Puerta de Santa María Sports Centre, with an investment of nearly €1 million.
Beltrán highlighted that since the beginning of the current mandate, the municipal government has prioritised improving sports facilities, with over €5 million invested since 2023. This figure is expected to rise to €9 million in 2026 when considering all allocations for sports, including subsidies for clubs and athletes, as well as maintenance of facilities.
