Representatives from Cuba, Mexico and Cape Verde have visited Galicia to learn about various models of tourism and urban management. This initiative, led by Eixo Atlántico, aims to facilitate an international exchange programme focused on sustainable tourism, urban management, and the conservation of historical heritage.
The international delegation toured the cities of Vigo, Pontevedra, and Santiago de Compostela, examining different initiatives and best practices designed to promote quality tourism that generates economic activity while safeguarding heritage and the well-being of local residents.
The programme commenced at the University of Vigo, featuring working sessions centred on excellence in tourism, urban sustainability, and environmental management models. Participants delved into topics such as waste management, circular economy, decarbonisation, and sustainable mobility, drawing on experiences from Galicia and northern Portugal.
In Pontevedra, the delegation explored initiatives focused on public space recovery, sustainable mobility, and community composting. Meanwhile, in Santiago de Compostela, discussions centred on heritage conservation policies and tourism management in historic centres.
Through this initiative, Eixo Atlántico strengthens international cooperation and knowledge exchange among regions facing the challenge of advancing towards more sustainable, balanced, and respectful tourism models that honour their heritage and local communities.
