El Brujo and Titzina close the 35th FIOT with diverse programming in Carballo

The International Autumn Theatre Festival of Carballo, known as FIOT, is entering its final week of programming, culminating in a 35th edition characterised by diverse artistic expressions, prominent figures from the theatre scene, and support for contemporary creation. From Thursday 29 to Saturday 31 October, the festival will feature two significant performances: Disección de la bondad en tres actos by the Titzina company, which will kick off its national tour in Carballo, and La segunda venida de Cristo o el yoga de Jesús, the premiere in Galicia of Rafael Álvarez's new show, El Brujo.

Final events of the festival

The final stretch of FIOT will begin on Thursday with a meeting between Titzina and Daniel Galindo, a cultural journalist and director of the programme La Sala on RNE, as part of Onda FIOT – School of the Spectator on the Waves. This event will take place at 20:00 in the Pazo da Cultura of Carballo.

On Friday, the Catalan company will present their new creation at the Pazo da Cultura Auditorium at 21:00. This farce in three acts delves into the mechanisms of goodness, deception, and the construction of truth. On Saturday 31 at 20:00, El Brujo will conclude the Sala Programme with a monologue that intertwines the Gospels, Eastern philosophy, and yoga traditions.

Titzina's exploration of goodness

Titzina returns to FIOT with Disección de la bondad en tres actos on Friday 30 October at 21:00 in the Pazo da Cultura Auditorium. This performance marks the beginning of the company’s new tour and is a farce that examines the fluid nature of truth. The narrative follows a magician and his assistant as they employ increasingly absurd methods to claim a deceased mother’s pension, an agricultural worker who manipulates his memory for a massive compensation, and a charming fraudster living under multiple identities.

Through these intertwining stories, the characters challenge the boundaries between reality and fiction, prompting the audience to reflect on memory, identity, deception, and truth. The creative team includes Diego Lorca and Pako Merino, who handle direction and performance, with dramaturgy by Lorca, set design by Luis Crespo, costumes by Sergi Cerdán, lighting design by Jordi Thomàs, and sound by Arnau Obiols.

El Brujo's unique perspective

On Saturday 31 October at 20:00, Rafael Álvarez, known as El Brujo, will close the 35th FIOT with La segunda venida de Cristo o el yoga de Jesús. This show, making its debut in Galicia, combines humour, spoken word, gesture, improvisation, live music, and spiritual reflection. El Brujo's performance revisits the figure of Jesus from an unconventional perspective, engaging in dialogue between the Gospels, Eastern philosophy, and yoga traditions.

The performance invites audiences to explore profound questions about consciousness, spirituality, and the human condition while maintaining a humorous and festive theatrical atmosphere. Drawing from the traditions of ancient troubadours and influenced by Dario Fo, El Brujo’s monologue creates a unique theatrical universe. Live music by Javier Alejano enhances the experience, celebrating the transformative power of theatre.

Exhibitions complement the festival's finale

During the final days of FIOT35, visitors can explore the exhibitions Zoom FIOT 2025 and Manuel Lourenzo. La huella que continúa at the Pazo da Cultura, open from 17:00 to 21:00. The first exhibition captures the visual memory of the previous festival edition through images documenting performances, artists, and shared moments with the audience. The second pays tribute to Manuel Lourenzo, a pivotal figure in contemporary Galician theatre, showcasing the artistic and human legacy of a creator who has influenced generations of the Galician stage.

These exhibitions extend the spirit of FIOT beyond the performances, affirming the importance of theatrical memory as an essential part of the cultural life in Carballo and Galicia.
