In September, 309 individuals benefited from the municipal caregiver service in Vigo, Spain, which assists with various tasks such as errands, walks, and companionship. Mayor Abel Caballero described the initiative as a social success, emphasizing its dual purpose of supporting those in need and creating employment opportunities.
During a recent statement, Caballero noted that of the total individuals served, 263 were women and 46 were men, primarily aged between 76 and 90 years. Notably, 56% of these individuals live alone, and 50% have a recognized disability.
The majority of the 1,404 services provided in September were for errands, totaling 1,084, followed by walks at 231, periodic companionship at 81, and administrative tasks at 8. Since January, the neighborhood caregiver service has conducted a total of 11,744 support sessions.
