Pere Anguera library launches seventh edition of FILS programme

The Municipal Libraries are set to launch a new edition of the FILS programme at the Pere Anguera Library on Wednesday, 18 November, with events scheduled throughout the day. The FILS programme, which stands for Philosophy, Images, and Letters, was initiated to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the library during the pandemic, aiming to encourage library use and a love for reading through various disciplines.

This year, in addition to the main event on 18 November, FILS will include a pre-event workshop focused on rephotography titled “Past, present, and future of the Mas Iglesias neighbourhood.” Participants will have the opportunity to compare archival photographs from the CIMIR with the current environment surrounding the Pere Anguera Library and take their own photographs. The workshop, organised by the Photo Km 0 collective, is free of charge and will take place on 28 and 31 October, as well as 7 and 11 November at the library. Interested individuals can register via the website inscripcions.reus.cat.

On 18 November, the Pere Anguera Library will host a full day of activities, including an exhibition titled “10 years of the Pere Anguera Library.” Guided tours for groups and organisations will be available from 10:00 to 14:00, with prior registration required at the library’s front desk. At 17:00, a workshop called “Laboratorio Casa,” led by librarian Santi Jiménez, will offer a collective and engaging reading experience, also requiring prior registration.

At 18:00, the rephotography workshop will be presented in the events room, followed by a talk at 18:30 by Marta Mallafrè, the librarian responsible for the Pere Anguera collection, discussing “The bibliographic legacy of Dr. Pere Anguera: treatment and accessibility.” The day will culminate at 19:00 with the final event, “The city of women of water,” a literary and musical performance featuring Aleix Cort, Gerard Marsal, and Toni Guillemat, celebrating literature and imaginary spaces as reflections of the human condition.

Since its opening 11 years ago, the Pere Anguera Library has become a cultural hub for residents in the southern area of Reus. It has consistently promoted reading through educational visits for school groups and various adult groups, storytelling sessions, reading clubs, and summer activities. The library has seen a steady increase in visitors, with over 260,000 people attending and more than 185,000 loans made to individuals, schools, hospitals, and other entities. The library boasts a collection of over 52,000 documents, including a specialised collection on contemporary history that has been consulted by more than 400 individuals.

Additionally, the library hosts around 170 activities each year, engaging over 2,500 participants. Notable initiatives include summer afternoons filled with recreational activities and reading promotion, as well as reading clubs tailored for both adults and children. Collaborative projects with other areas of the Reus City Council, such as language learning, the Punt Jove, and ABC D Juegos, a literary playroom, are also integral to the library's programming.
