Cabildo de Fuerteventura launches fifth edition of 'I shop in Fuerteventura' campaign to boost local commerce

The Cabildo de Fuerteventura has announced the launch of the fifth edition of the 'I shop in Fuerteventura' campaign, aimed at boosting the island's economic activity and supporting local businesses through a consumer voucher system. This initiative enables residents to save 50% on their purchases at participating establishments.

The presentation of the campaign took place on Monday, featuring the President of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Lola García, the Island Councillor for Commerce, Lolina Negrín, and the President of the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (FAUCA), Abbas Moujir. The campaign is backed by a budget of €400,000, entirely funded by the island's government.

In collaboration with FAUCA, the 'I shop in Fuerteventura' initiative aims to promote local consumption, enhance the competitiveness of small businesses, and ensure that spending benefits the island's economy. Lola García emphasised the importance of small commerce, stating, “It generates employment, enlivens our towns and cities, and helps to retain the wealth we create here on our island.”

Lolina Negrín encouraged local businesses to register from today via the designated platform, describing it as a beneficial initiative for families and small commerce, which is the backbone of the economy in Fuerteventura.

Abbas Moujir highlighted FAUCA's support for local businesses, noting that this year, up to 37,100 vouchers will be circulated, translating to an economic injection of more than €740,000. The campaign aims to prepare the commercial sector for the upcoming Christmas season.

Details of the voucher system

The campaign will allow consumers to purchase vouchers worth €20, of which they will pay only €10, with the remaining €10 subsidised by the Cabildo de Fuerteventura. Each individual can acquire a maximum of 15 vouchers linked to their national identity document (DNI) or foreign identity number (NIE).

The vouchers will be available from 10 November at 12:00 through the website www.yocomproenfuerteventura.com and can be purchased until 20 January 2027 or until the available funds are depleted. The vouchers operate like a digital wallet and can be used at participating establishments until the balance is exhausted, with a final redemption date of 20 January 2027. To redeem them, consumers must present the corresponding QR code and verify their identity with the DNI or NIE associated with the purchase.

Participation of local businesses

Businesses interested in joining this fifth edition can apply for participation starting from 26 October at 12:00 via the registration form on the campaign's website. Eligible establishments must fall under specific commercial activity classifications as defined by the Economic Activities Tax (IAE).

An updated list of participating businesses, along with their locations and available balances, can be found on www.yocomproenfuerteventura.com. Queries regarding the programme's conditions, participation requirements, or purchases can be directed to yocomproenfuerteventura@fauca.org. Any issues with the platform for businesses and consumers will be addressed Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 15:30 at the contact numbers 675 633 988 or 653 818 784.
