The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the Fuerteventura Film Commission, has congratulated Juan Pedro Vera for his script set on the island, which has won the DAMA Series Award at the fifth edition of IsLABentura.
‘Jauría’ is a fictional series that narrates a story set in 1980s Fuerteventura, during the arrival of 5,000 legionnaires. The series explores the process of adaptation to this significant influx of soldiers.
During his research, Juan Pedro Vera conducted various interviews, including with Tero Brito, the official chronicler of Fuerteventura, and former Cabildo president Gerardo Mesa. The author also visited several locations frequented by the Legion at the time, accompanied by veterans, as well as other sites in Puerto del Rosario.
About IsLABentura 2026
Each year, the Fuerteventura Film Commission supports the international script laboratory IsLABentura, which focuses on stories based in the Canary Islands. In the initial phase of the laboratory, screenwriters Cristina Naranjo and Juan Pedro Valera had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the local culture and natural settings that inspired their scripts in Fuerteventura, with guidance from the Fuerteventura Film Commission, led by Nereida Calero.
The final phase of this edition took place in Gran Canaria, where participants and tutors spent the last days developing scripts and presenting them in a final pitch to producers. Representatives from Movistar Plus, Secuoya, Onza, Portocabo, Fasten Films, Buendía Estudios, as well as local companies such as Naif Films, Amuse Studio, and 3 Doubles, attended the laboratory.
