Spanish film week kicks off in Manzanares with 'La bola negra' as the highlight

The acclaimed film 'La bola negra', directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, has already sold out in advance ticket sales. The Gran Teatro is hosting a new edition of Spanish Film Week, which will showcase four recently released films on Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday, and Monday.

'La bola negra' is the main draw of the event, set to premiere in Manzanares on Sunday, 1 November, with all tickets sold out. The film is inspired by the unfinished theatrical work of Federico García Lorca and Alberto Conejero's 'La piedra oscura', offering an intergenerational dialogue set in 1932, 1937, and 2017, reflecting on themes of memory, love, repression, and unfinished stories.

The cast includes Guitarricadelafuente, Miguel Bernardeau, Carlos González, Milo Quifes, and Lola Dueñas, with special appearances by Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close. This monumental production has received accolades including Best Direction at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival and the Audience Awards at both the San Sebastián and Toronto Film Festivals, and it will represent Spain at the upcoming Oscars.

Another highlight of the week is 'El ser querido', which will be screened on the holiday Monday, 2 November, at 18:15. Directed by Rodrigo Sorogoyen and co-written with Isabel Peña, this film competed for the Palme d'Or at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival. Starring Javier Bardem and Victoria Luengo, the drama explores the complex relationship between a renowned film director and his daughter as they work together on a film, rekindling old wounds while fostering intimacy.

The week's film offerings also include two additional screenings. On Wednesday, 28 October, at 20:15, audiences can enjoy 'Enjambre', the debut film by Óscar Bernàcer, featuring Pablo Molinero and Cristina Fernández Pintado. This oppressive rural thriller delves into the dark dynamics of an isolated community. On Thursday, 29 October, at 20:15, 'Cronos', directed by Fernando González Molina and written by Alberto Marini, will be shown. This film reconstructs the police investigation of Operation Cronos following the 2017 Barcelona attacks, based on real testimonies from those involved.

Tickets for the screenings are affordably priced at five euros and can be purchased at the Gran Teatro box office or through the Globalentradas website.
