Tarragona launches cultural debate series 'thinking culture'

The Tarragona City Council is set to launch 'Thinking Culture', a series of four open sessions for debate and reflection this November. This initiative is part of the Strategic Plan Tarragona Culture 2033, which outlines the municipality's cultural policies for the coming years.

The plan places cultural rights, citizen participation, cultural mediation, critical thinking, and participatory governance at the heart of municipal cultural action. Among its objectives, it specifically aims to create spaces for reflection, knowledge, and dialogue that allow for a rethinking of cultural policies through an open, pluralistic lens, connected to contemporary social challenges.

In this context, the series aims to raise questions and foster conversations about the public value of culture, its relationship with critical thinking, artistic creation, cultural democracy, and citizens' cultural rights. The initiative will bring together individuals from research, artistic creation, cultural management, journalism, and public policy to engage both professionals in the sector and the wider community.

The four sessions will be held in the foyer of Teatre Tarragona on Thursdays throughout November at 6 p.m. Each session will feature prominent voices from contemporary thought, culture, and creation. Through various formats, including discussions, round tables, and presentations, the series invites collective reflection on a fundamental question: why is culture still essential for building a more democratic, critical, inclusive, and cohesive society?
