The city council of Ávila is set to expand this year’s Medieval City Days, which will take place on 12 and 13 November, dedicated to the cultural and intangible heritage of the city. This initiative is part of the council's efforts to give the Medieval Days of Ávila – known as the City of Three Cultures – an international character, with plans to apply for International Tourist Interest status in 2028.
The third edition of the event, titled 'Heritage, culture and life of Ávila, medieval city', aims to enhance its international profile. It is the most significant event in the city’s tourist calendar, attracting large crowds and providing a substantial economic boost. The programme will feature conferences and round tables with nearly twenty speakers, all experts in the relevant fields.
The inaugural conference will be delivered by French professor Ghislain Baury, a historian and specialist in Cistercian monasticism from the University of Maine. Additionally, there will be four round tables discussing various topics, including the intangible heritage of Ávila through clothing, crafts, and cultural tourism; rediscovering Ávila through its documentary, epigraphic, and artistic heritage; medieval heritage; and a session dedicated to myths, medieval music, and soundscapes, which will include a proposed organ interpretation.
The event will also feature a guided tour of the city for participants.
