Terres de l'Ebre promotes cycling and gastronomy in Bilbao

Terres de l'Ebre has been presented in Bilbao as a top destination for both cycling and gastronomy, with the participation of former Basque professional cyclists Joseba Beloki and Peio Ruiz Cabestany. The event targeted local cycling enthusiasts and the press, promoting the region under the concept of Bike & Rice.

The initiative, led by the Tourism Board of the Tarragona Provincial Council, emphasises the area's suitability for cycling alongside its renowned culinary scene. The rice, a flagship product of the Delta, serves as a connection between landscape, sport, and nutrition, as explained by Joan Capilla, owner and chef of the Hotel Restaurante l’Algadir del Delta.

During the event, Enric Adell, president of the Tourism Board, highlighted that the Ebre regions are ideal for cycling tourism across various disciplines. Within a 30-kilometre radius, visitors can explore two natural parks, the sea, mountains, the delta, rivers, cities, villages, and fields.

For family cycling, the Vía Verde de la Val de Zafán stands out as the premier route in Terres de l'Ebre, complemented by a network of flat and tranquil paths through the Ebro Delta. Road cycling enthusiasts are attracted to the secondary roads of the Ebre regions, which weave through nature and villages, offering technically challenging routes, such as the ascent to Mont Caro.

The growing discipline of gravel cycling finds an ideal setting in the rural paths, trails, and tracks among rice fields. An example is the SB Hotels – La Garba gravel race, which has become a reference event in this discipline, as noted by its director, Ramon Navarro.

The event took place at the specialised store Mammoth Bilbao, coinciding with a year in which Terres de l'Ebre hosted part of a stage of the Vuelta and the Clásica Terres de l'Ebre has established itself as a cycling event included in the international calendar of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).
