The municipality of Tres Cantos is celebrating the Month of Childhood and Adolescence throughout November, with a programme designed by various local departments to raise awareness of the rights of children and adolescents while encouraging their participation in the community.
The agenda includes leisure, cultural, creative, and sporting activities for different age groups, alongside proposals open to families and the wider public. All events are centred around the Universal Children's Day, which will be commemorated on 20 November.
The programme kicks off today, 3 November, with the exhibition Children's Rights, which will be on display until 30 November at the Vértice Youth Centre. The exhibition is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 and 17:00 to 20:00, with free entry. It aims to inform visitors about the rights of children and adolescents as outlined in the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
From today until 20 November, the initiative A book for your rights will also take place, encouraging participants to share their favourite titles via the WhatsApp channel Juventud3C, with a chance to win vouchers for purchasing books.
Cinema, participation and family activities
The Enrique Mas Space will host two Family Party events on Sundays 8 and 22 November, from 11:00 to 14:00. The first will feature various leisure activities and a session of Cucutrastos, while the second will focus on Children's Rights, offering games, inflatables, puppets, a gymkhana, and various workshops.
Additionally, on Sunday 15 November at 12:00, Odeón Cinema will screen Cinema for Rights, featuring the film The Cat in the Hat, which highlights the importance of leisure, play, and rest for all children and young people. Admission is free until capacity is reached, with tickets available from 11:30.
One of the key events for youth participation will occur on Wednesday 18 November at 17:30, with the XI Children's and Adolescent Plenary at the Town Hall. Members of the Children's and Adolescent Participation Commissions (COPIA) will present their proposals for the municipality in a session open to the public until capacity is reached. COPIA will reconvene on Wednesday 25 November at the Vértice Youth Centre for primary and secondary school students.
Throughout the month, the Vértice Youth Centre will host various proposals for children, adolescents, and families, including Let's chat and snack, Healthy Sweets Workshops, Youth Weekend, and different artistic creation spaces such as Street Art, Creative Adolescent Space, and Painting our Rights, which require prior registration. Family-oriented artistic creation sessions will also be held on 14 and 28 November.
Sport and solidarity
On Sunday 22 November, from 10:00 to 12:00, Central Park will host the IV Race for Childhood, organised by the Red Cross in collaboration with the Youth and Childhood and Sports departments. The event aims to raise funds to support children and families in vulnerable situations. The race will feature a 5-kilometre route that participants can complete by running, walking, or Nordic walking, along with children's races, activities, raffles, and various themed surprises.
