Vigo's 2027 budget includes tax reductions and exemptions totalling €14.5 million

The municipal budget for 2027 will provide a significant financial relief of €14.5 million for the residents of Vigo. The local government has announced plans to freeze taxes and fees amounting to €4.5 million, alongside implementing exemptions worth €10 million.

Vigo continues to maintain the lowest tax pressure in Galicia and ranks among the cities in Spain with similar population sizes. The Xunta de Gobierno approved the budget earlier today, which totals €365,058,205, reflecting an increase of €14.1 million compared to the previous year and marking a rise of over 4%. This makes it the highest budget in the city’s history.

According to the mayor, the budget is bolstered by local funds, including €120 million from the State and €6.6 million from the Xunta de Galicia, with zero debt, thus preserving the low tax pressure. The budget also takes into account an expected inflation rate of 5% for the year, leading to the total freeze of taxes and fees valued at €4.4 million and the introduction of tax reductions amounting to €10 million.

Key allocations within the budget include substantial investments in various sectors. The budget for mobility and public safety (including police, fire services, and traffic management) is set at €50,516,664.39, an increase of 7.07%. Housing, urban planning, and development will receive €41,214,694.86, reflecting an 11.7% rise. Notably, housing policies will see dedicated funding such as €700,000 for a municipal rental fund, €466,818 for a rehabilitation office, and €220,000 for grants aimed at improving housing accessibility.

Other significant budget areas include community wellbeing (waste collection and public lighting) at €65,141,684 (+1.99%), social services and promotion at €29,724,856 (+6.09%), environmental initiatives (parks and gardens) at €20,977,952 (+8.45%), education at €19,445,230 (+6.05%), and culture (libraries, museums, historical heritage, leisure activities, and festivals) at €23,358,584 (+17.59%). The budget also allocates €9,244,721 for commerce and tourism (+31.32%) and €25,402,978 for public transport (+21.45%).
