The new poetry collection 'A ti, mujer, desde mi mar' by Virginia Sánchez Nuño was presented at the Museo Casa del Hidalgo in Alcázar de San Juan this weekend. The event, part of the Ateneo's 'The author and their work' series, saw a significant turnout of literature enthusiasts eager to support the author in an evening dedicated to poetry and the female experience.
The presentation highlighted the growing interest in Sánchez Nuño's literary career and the positive reception of cultural initiatives in the town. The event was led by Luis Ángel Agenjo, president of the Ateneo, with attendance from local councillors Paco García-Navas and José Antonio Navarro, who joined Sánchez Nuño in showcasing her latest work.
'A ti, mujer, desde mi mar' is a culmination of years of writing, featuring poems inspired by the author's observations, reflections, and personal experiences. Sánchez Nuño explained that the book draws from her own life as well as the women who have influenced her, including her mother, teachers, friends, and other significant figures. The title itself encapsulates the perspective from which the collection is written, with 'desde mi mar' symbolising her viewpoint, sensitivity, and unique approach to the female experience.
Rather than creating a divide between men and women, Sánchez Nuño aims to shine a light on women's experiences while acknowledging the shared journey of both genders in society. A pharmacist and secondary school teacher by profession, Sánchez Nuño has concurrently pursued a literary career focused on poetry. She has previously presented works in Alcázar de San Juan, including 'Trayectos germinales' and 'Mientras cabalga la vida', which have strengthened her connection with readers and her presence in the city's cultural scene.
The publication of 'A ti, mujer, desde mi mar' adds to the Ateneo's efforts to promote literature and connect readers with various authors. The 'The author and their work' series continues to provide a platform for interaction between writers and audiences, fostering the exchange of ideas and insights into the creative processes behind each publication. Councillor Paco García-Navas congratulated Sánchez Nuño on her new book and expressed gratitude to the Ateneo for its ongoing cultural activities. He praised the association's ability to bring together individuals interested in literature, philosophy, painting, and other artistic expressions, contributing to a diverse and participatory cultural programme in Alcázar de San Juan. García-Navas also reiterated the Town Hall's commitment to supporting such initiatives and making municipal spaces like the Museo Casa del Hidalgo available for cultural creation and dissemination.
