Valdecilla to welcome 205 new anaesthesiology residents from across Spain

Hospital Valdecilla is set to welcome 205 new anaesthesiology residents from across Spain on 24 October. This event marks the third Welcome Day for first-year residents in this specialty, organised by the Spanish Society of Anaesthesiology, Resuscitation and Pain Therapy (SEDAR).

The aim of the gathering is to immerse these young specialists in a major healthcare centre, allowing them to learn both theoretical and practical fundamentals of anaesthesiology alongside experienced professionals. The event is expected to have a significant impact on both the city and the hospital, attracting 205 young specialists (R1) from various regions of Spain.

Dubbed ‘R1-Estesia’, this welcome day is the third of its kind in the country, following last year’s event held at the Hospital Universitario de La Paz in Madrid. The programme will run from 09:00 to 17:30, featuring 11 informative talks delivered by specialists, most of whom are from Hospital Marqués de Valdecilla.

Among the speakers, Francisco Montero will discuss anaesthetic drugs and dosages, while SEDAR president Javier García will explain the functions of anaesthesia machines and vaporizers. Additionally, specialist José Anido will address the diagnosis and treatment of malignant hyperthermia.
