The ix national painting competition 'ciudad de torreón de ardoz' has recognised Javier López Arenas with a prize of €3,000 for his artwork 'El taller de Tomás'. This piece is noted for its originality, meticulous composition, and ability to transform a mundane scene into a distinctive image.
Additionally, the competition awarded two special mentions of €500 each to local artists Heorhiy Dzhalahaniya for his piece 'Acción' and Javier Moreno for 'Si supiéramos metáforas'. The jury also granted four honourable mentions to the works 'Expectativas de júbilo' by Miguel Recuero, 'Soñadoras' by Pilar López Báez, 'Gallinette' by local artist Mónica Romero, and 'Luces de otoño en El Retiro' by fellow local artist Juan Ramón Luque Ávalos.
To select the winning entries, the jury, composed of esteemed figures in the art world, assessed criteria such as composition, technical quality, creativity, and artistic innovation. They highlighted the diversity of the 161 submissions received for this national competition.
The competition aims to promote artistic creation and support local painters. A total of 30 works have been selected, seven of which are by Torrejon artists, and these will be displayed in an exhibition at the Casa de la Cultura until 8 November. Following the physical exhibition, a virtual version will be available on the municipal website.
