Aldo Méndez captivates daimiel audience with ‘Palabras prestadas’ stories

The Municipal Library of Daimiel hosted an oral storytelling session titled Palabras prestadas on Thursday, 22 October, featuring Cuban storyteller Aldo Méndez. The event attracted a predominantly female audience, along with young attendees and men, all of whom enjoyed a captivating blend of stories, literature, and shared emotions.

Throughout the session, Méndez showcased his remarkable ability to connect with the local audience, fostering attentive listening and a shared experience that resonated deeply with those present. His unique storytelling style brought to life narratives that evoked memories, stirred emotions, and forged connections between the storyteller and the listeners.

The concept behind Palabras prestadas emphasised that words and stories do not solely belong to their authors but are also the property of those who share, listen, and make them their own. This perspective transformed the library's space into a meeting point for literature and oral storytelling, where interaction and voice played a crucial role.

In a pre-event interview, Aldo Méndez highlighted the importance of libraries as spaces for community engagement, cultural access, and citizen participation. He advocated for oral storytelling as a means to bring literature closer to diverse audiences, particularly those who may struggle to find time for reading but can discover a gateway to books and imagination through stories.

This session was part of the activities organised in honour of Library Day, celebrated on 24 October, which aims to recognise libraries as vibrant spaces open to the public and capable of generating shared cultural experiences.
