Alicante prepares for all saints' day with enhanced security and transport measures

Alicante has activated a special operation for all saints' day, organised by the city council, which will run from Thursday until Sunday, 1 November. This initiative includes enhanced urban bus services to the cemetery, particularly on line 4 and a special service from Plaza de España.

Local police and Civil Protection will deploy over 200 personnel to manage access to the cemetery and ensure safety during a period expected to attract thousands of visitors. The cemetery will extend its opening hours on Sunday, 1 November, from 8 am to 6 pm.

The transport arrangements for accessing and leaving the cemetery will be in place from Friday, 24 October, until 1 November, with increased frequency on line 4, which will operate every 14 minutes, and the special line, which will run every 30 minutes. On Saturday and Sunday, the frequency will be further enhanced to every 15 and 10 minutes, respectively.

On 31 October and 1 November, a free bus service will operate between the cemetery gates, with a frequency of every 10 minutes from 8 am to 2:50 pm. Line 4, connecting Tómbola to the cemetery, serves various neighbourhoods including Tómbola, Virgen del Remedio, and Campoamor, while the special line from Plaza de España passes through key areas such as Avenida Alfonso el Sabio and Estación.

The security operation will commence on Friday, 30 October, at 4 pm and conclude on Sunday, 1 November, at 8 pm. This will involve over 200 inspectors, officers, and agents working in shifts over the three days. Prior to this, from Saturday, 24 October, local police will monitor traffic near the cemetery, with parking restrictions in place from Thursday, 29 October, at 8 am.

Additionally, Civil Protection will deploy around 30 volunteers on Saturday and Sunday, and a medical tent will be set up at the cemetery entrance on all saints' day, staffed with medical personnel. A mobile first aid unit will also be available inside the cemetery, along with an ambulance from the emergency services and a vehicle to assist those with reduced mobility.

For those wishing to drive, traffic will be restricted on Calle Río Turia to facilitate public transport, and one-way traffic will be enforced on Camino de la Alcoraya. Traditional flower stalls will be set up at the cemetery entrance, necessitating the closure of one lane from 28 October for pedestrian safety.

The traffic routes for vehicles accessing and exiting the cemetery remain unchanged from previous years, with entry via Plaza de la Luna and exit via Vial de los Cipreses. Additional parking will be made available on Camino de la Alcoraya near Barranco de las Ovejas to improve circulation around the cemetery.

From Wednesday, no external work requiring vehicle access to the cemetery will be permitted, and only funeral services will be processed at the cemetery administration until Monday, 2 November. Access for vehicles will be closed on Friday, with police monitoring.

Street cleaning services have also been enhanced, including the clearing of vegetation around main roads and temporary parking areas. Extraordinary cleaning measures will be implemented on Vial de los Cipreses and other access routes to the municipal cemeteries of Villafranqueza and Tángel, alongside the removal of side-loading containers from the cemetery plaza.

Inside the cemeteries, cleaning services will be increased with additional brigades and special sweeping, washing, and emptying of containers, particularly on 31 October and 1 November.
