Blanca Fernández advocates for equality and democratic values on national holiday

The representative of the Castilla-La Mancha regional government in Ciudad Real, Blanca Fernández, emphasised the importance of equality and pluralism as foundational pillars for a stronger Spain during the National Day celebrations.

Blanca Fernández advocates for equality and democratic values on national holiday

Blanca Fernández, the delegate of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha in Ciudad Real, highlighted the significance of equality, respect for pluralism, and democratic values as essential foundations for building a stronger, fairer, and more cohesive Spain during the National Day celebrations.

Fernández extended her congratulations to all Spanish citizens, as well as to those from other countries who contribute to the development of Spain through their daily efforts and work. She noted that the strength of Spain lies in its status as a social and democratic state governed by the rule of law, and in the principles that enable coexistence, progress, and the sharing of a common project.

The provincial delegate remarked that nearly 50 years of democracy have led to a society that is “much fairer, more supportive, more equal, and united.” She believes this evolution should serve to deepen the values that underpin democratic coexistence and maintain Spain as a country open to all who wish to contribute to its progress.

Fernández also praised Spain's position in the international context, citing its economic dimension and life expectancy indicators as reflections of the country's capacity to advance and serve as a model for other societies. She stated, “This is what the National Day is for: to identify with the democratic values that have brought us here and to be a country that is permanently open to all those who want to help make Spain a stronger and greater nation every day.”

Recognition of the Guardia Civil

In conjunction with the festivities for the Virgen del Pilar, the patron saint of the Guardia Civil, Fernández specifically congratulated the men and women of this force for their professionalism, public service vocation, and contribution to citizen security. She paid special tribute to the agents who remain on duty away from their homes on a holiday to ensure the protection of the population.

Fernández acknowledged the role of the Guardia Civil in a province like Ciudad Real, where their jurisdiction covers over 90 percent of the territory. She recognised the collaborative work of the Guardia Civil, the National Police, and local police forces, which contributes to making Ciudad Real “one of the safest provinces in Spain.” She reiterated that the safety and tranquillity of citizens are also reasons to publicly acknowledge the commitment of professionals who serve society daily.

Tourism occupancy during the holiday

Regarding the holiday weekend, when asked by reporters, Fernández provided data on tourism occupancy in Ciudad Real province, which stands at around 80 percent on average, while rural areas reach approximately 85 percent. These figures reflect the consolidation of Ciudad Real as a tourist destination, nearing 300,000 visitors and half a million overnight stays in the first eight months of the year.

Fernández emphasised the role of gastronomy and wine tourism in promoting the province, which increasingly attracts more national and international visitors. In this context, she reaffirmed the commitment of the Castilla-La Mancha government to promote quality tourism, capable of generating economic activity, employment, and wealth, while facilitating its redistribution through public services and contributing to population retention in rural areas.
