Cambrils to host first childhood festival on 20 November

Cambrils will host its first Fiesta de la Infancia on 20 November from 5 PM to 8 PM at Parc del Pescador, marking World Children's Day. Mayor Oliver Klein stated that the event is not merely a celebration but also a means to create a gathering space for families and to emphasise the importance of childhood.

Klein highlighted the local government's commitment to prioritising children in municipal policies, with the establishment of a new department specifically focused on childhood. The Councillor for Education, Employment, and Childhood, Natàlia Pleguezuelos, expressed the intention to continue advocating for children's rights across all areas of the council's work.

“When we talk about childhood, we are not only referring to schools, activities, or festivals, but also to public spaces, culture, sports, mobility, and how we build a city that considers children's needs,” said Pleguezuelos.

Pleguezuelos explained that each planned activity has an educational purpose: “We want it to be an afternoon of fun but also of learning and coexistence, because playing is also a way to learn and grow.” She added that the municipal government's aim is for the initiative to become an annual event, growing over time with family and children participation.

The Fiesta de la Infancia aims to create a space for gathering, play, participation, and celebration, highlighting childhood as an essential part of the city and advocating for children's rights on a significant date established by the United Nations to commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.

Activities will be organised by the company Circ de Jocs, led by Jordi Biarnés, who is passionate about childhood, creativity, and play as a transformative force. The programme includes circus performances, games, music, movement, expression, and art, featuring activities such as:

  • Circ Funky Experience: A family-friendly activity that combines learning and fun.
  • Plantada de Juegos de Robin: A revival of traditional games using simple, eco-friendly materials to foster cooperation and creativity.
  • Seny, Pilotada y Rauxa: A space for play and body awareness, focusing on balance and enjoyment.
  • Globufesta Workshops: A participatory animation show teaching balloon art.
  • Creative Makeup: Transformations into animals, comic characters, or fantasy figures.
  • Cercavila de las emociones: Animation featuring popular characters and family-friendly music from La Tresca and la Verdesca.
  • Chocolateada con coca: Organised by the Pit y fogons association.

Through play, children will have the opportunity to experiment, create, and interact with their peers, while also developing cooperation skills, emotional awareness, and bodily consciousness.
