Javier Vicario, the Deputy Minister for Institutional Relations, attended the inauguration of the 32nd Cultural Week of the Castellano-Manchego Centre in Latina, Madrid, this past weekend. During his speech, he highlighted the significant role that regional houses play in keeping the roots, culture, and traditions of Castilla-La Mancha alive outside the autonomous community.
Vicario praised these entities as spaces for gathering and coexistence, which help strengthen the bonds between Castilian-Manchegos living away from their region and their homeland. He noted that they also contribute to passing on cultural identity to younger generations.
He stated, “Being Castilian-Manchego does not only mean being born in one of our five provinces, but also carrying our land in our hearts, keeping our memories alive, and passing on to our children and grandchildren the love for our towns, our culture, and our traditions, wherever we may be.”
In his address, Vicario gave special recognition to Pedro Rosillo Díaz, the president of the Castellano-Manchego Centre of Latina, who has led the entity for over 30 years. He commended Rosillo for his commitment and dedication to preserving the roots and traditions of Castilla-La Mancha in Madrid. This gratitude extended to the Centre's Board of Directors and all its members, as well as to Alberto González Díaz, the president of the Municipal Board of the Latina District, for his collaboration with the centre and for providing municipal spaces that enable cultural activities.
Vicario emphasised that “our region is also built beyond its administrative borders, in every association, in every regional centre, and in every initiative that keeps the connection between our towns and those who live elsewhere alive.”
Finally, he reiterated the regional government's recognition of the work carried out by Castilian-Manchego communities abroad, reminding them that “Castilla-La Mancha has its doors open for all of you. Your land remembers you, recognises you, and considers you an essential part of its present and future.”
