Córdoba promotes volunteering among children in six municipalities

The Diputación de Córdoba has introduced a new initiative titled ‘I want to be a hero’, aimed at fostering a culture of volunteering among children. The project, announced by the delegate for Equality, Development Cooperation, Consumer Affairs, and Citizen Participation, Auxiliadora Moreno, will visit six municipalities in the province during November.

Moreno outlined the schedule for the initiative, which will take place in La Carlota on 3 November, Villaviciosa de Córdoba on 5 November, Villanueva del Rey on 10 November, Zuheros on 12 November, Palenciana on 13 November, and Fernán Núñez on 18 November. The target audience for this project is children aged between 8 and 12 years.

The initiative aims to use theatrical performances, featuring actors, puppets, and humour, to help children understand the concept of volunteering, its importance, and how they can engage in small acts of solidarity within their everyday lives. Moreno emphasised that ‘I want to be a hero’ seeks to promote volunteerism and civic participation in a playful, inclusive, and educational manner.

She highlighted the project's goal of encouraging reflection through a theatrical representation that inspires solidarity from an early age, fostering empathy and mutual assistance. The storyline centres around a girl who dreams of becoming a superhero to save the world but feels disappointed when she discovers she cannot fly or shoot rays. However, her perspective changes when the ‘Guardian of Volunteering’ appears, and together with his team, they begin to help care for nature, support the elderly, and assist other children.

This initiative is part of the Active Citizenship School Programme of the Diputación, which also includes other projects such as ‘Solidarity Footprints: sowing commitment in Córdoba’, aimed at young people aged 18 to 35.
