Cultural department launches new funding for female athletes post-maternity

The Ministry of Culture, Linguistic Policy, and Sports of the Principality of Asturias has announced the establishment of a new funding line aimed at supporting high-level female athletes, coaches, referees, and judges in continuing their careers after maternity. This initiative was published today in the Official Bulletin of the Principality (Bopa).

The funding covers cases of maternity due to pregnancy, adoption, or permanent fostering, and seeks to prevent premature interruptions in elite sports careers. The grants will be awarded on a competitive basis, and professional female athletes who have become mothers within the three years prior to the publication of the relevant call will be eligible to apply.

Applicants must have been residents of Asturias for at least two years prior to the application date and must hold a valid sports license, whether international, national, or issued by a federation within the autonomous community. Applications will be evaluated based on the athlete's accredited sports level.

The highest score, ten points, will be awarded to those with an international license or who have received recognition as a high-level athlete, coach, referee, or judge in the three years preceding the application. The scoring system allocates seven points for high performance, five for a national license, and three for a regional Asturian license. Only the highest score will be considered, and merits are not cumulative.

The maximum amount available, the specific amount of each grant, and its correlation with the scores obtained will be detailed in the upcoming call for applications. The grants will be compatible with other public or private resources aimed at the same purpose.

Payments will be made in a single installment, and since the grants are awarded based on specific personal and sports circumstances, no further justification will be required beyond the documentation submitted with the application, although relevant checks may still be conducted.
