Despesque and popular festival highlight the week of estuary fish in Chiclana

Chiclana is celebrating its XIV Week of Estuary Fish, showcasing one of the region's most cherished products. The festivities began earlier this week, with primary schools participating in various initiatives, including visits to the local salt flats.

On Friday, the Centro de Recursos Ambientales Salinas de Chiclana will host a free despesque event, allowing attendees to witness the traditional fishing methods used in municipal estuaries. Entry is free until capacity is reached, and visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the different types of fish and products harvested.

Additionally, an information point about estuary fish has been set up at the Mercado de Abastos, where free tastings of estuary products will take place on Thursday and Friday. A wine and salt pairing event is also scheduled for Thursday at 19:00 at the Centro de Interpretación del Vino y la Sal.

The highlight of the week will be the Estuary Fish Festival on Saturday at noon in the Plaza de las Bodegas. This event will feature free tastings, two cooking demonstrations by local restaurants Flor de Tuna and Atrípiko, a children's play area, and live music. A posthumous Golden Dorada award will also be presented to Paco Barberá, known as 'Manguita'.

Manuela Pérez, the delegate for Economic Development, encouraged both Chiclana residents and visitors from other parts of Cádiz province and beyond to enjoy this significant local product. She emphasised that the two main events of the week are the free despesque on Friday and the popular festival with tastings on Saturday.
