Documentary ‘laberinto’ to be screened at palacio de exposiciones in santander

The palacio de exposiciones in santander will host the screening of the documentary ‘laberinto’ on Friday, 16 October, starting at 19:00. This event is organised jointly by the santander city council, through the municipal sports institute (IMD) and the health department, and the blanca fernández ochoa foundation for athlete support.

‘Laberinto’ explores the critical issue of eating disorders in sports, posing the question: what happens when weight control, nutrition, and body image shift from being tools for performance enhancement to threats to an athlete's health? The documentary features the story of anna guiradó and includes testimonies from prominent athletes such as ilia topuria, paula leitón, tania lamarca, and rafa lozano. It addresses issues such as pressure, weigh-ins, body image, diets, and performance without taboos.

Importantly, ‘laberinto’ does not solely focus on the athlete; it also encourages reflection on the roles of coaches, clubs, federations, families, and professionals. These individuals are considered crucial in recognising early signs of eating disorders, preventing risky behaviours, and providing appropriate support.

Following the screening, a discussion panel will be held, presented and moderated by tania lamarca. Participants will include beatriz pérez, an olympian and psychologist from the blanca foundation, and lola fernández ochoa, an olympian and president of the blanca foundation, along with psychiatrist andrés gómez del barrio. The discussion will delve into prevention, early detection, and shared responsibility regarding eating disorders in sports.
