The Concello da Coruña is a member of the Board of the Association of Local Entities for the Galician Language (Alingua). On 13 October 2026, Alingua and the Consello da Cultura Galega (CCG) signed a collaboration protocol to enhance the promotion and normalisation of the galician language through joint initiatives.
The agreement, signed by Alingua president Ramón Varela and CCG president Dolores Vilavedra, includes the organisation of cultural activities, the development of educational materials, and research into the current state of the language.
Among the initial actions planned is a study to assess the supply and demand for galician products, services, and content aimed at children. This research, to be conducted by the Observatorio da Cultura Galega, aims to identify the needs of families and correlate them with available market resources.
The project will build on two previous studies by the CCG: Oferta, demanda e prácticas culturais nos menores de 16 anos (2022), which focused on cultural and linguistic habits in households, and Oferta e demanda de produtos e servizos culturais en galego para a infancia e mocidade (2025), which examined cultural entities' perceptions of existing resources.
The first phase of the project will take place on 7 November in Santiago de Compostela, featuring a meeting organised by Alingua with families involved in the Apego programme. Participants will engage in discussions about their experiences with everyday consumption and leisure activities in galician, addressing issues such as availability, pricing, quality, and age-appropriateness of products and services.
The findings from this event, along with results from a subsequent online survey, will help identify gaps in the current offerings and facilitate connections between family demands and the production and business sectors.
The protocol also outlines plans for the exchange of projects and materials between the two entities, the potential inclusion of other institutions in the initiatives, and the establishment of a monitoring committee to coordinate and evaluate actions. The agreement will initially last for one year, with the possibility of annual extensions for up to three additional years. Each initiative will include a specific project detailing objectives, resources, and work phases.
Through this collaboration, Alingua and the CCG, which was established in 2019, aim to strengthen institutional coordination and expand the tools available to increase the presence and social use of the galician language.
