Galicia to allocate 132.3 million euros for tourism in 2027

The Xunta of Galicia has announced a nearly 5% increase in its tourism budget for 2027, amounting to 132.3 million euros. This represents an increase of 6.39 million euros compared to the previous year. The regional budget prioritises the modernisation of the tourism sector, infrastructure improvements, digital transformation, and the development of new tourism products.

Among the key allocations is an 8 million euro fund aimed at enhancing energy efficiency in tourism establishments, co-financed by European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) resources. This initiative aims to reduce consumption, upgrade facilities, and promote sustainability and competitiveness within the industry.

Additionally, 5 million euros will be allocated to support local councils and geodestinations in improving tourism resources and infrastructure, focusing on accessibility, mobility, digitalisation, and managing visitor flows.

Tourism promotion will also be a major focus of investment, with 35 million euros earmarked for initiatives linked to the Xacobeo 2027, a significant cultural event celebrating the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage routes. The budget for international promotion will increase from 13 million to 16 million euros, enhancing campaigns in strategic markets, participation in trade fairs, and collaboration with tour operators.

The 2027 planning aims to diversify the tourism offering and attract higher-spending visitors through initiatives in wine tourism, gastronomy, and premium experiences, thereby promoting a more balanced distribution of tourism's economic benefits across the region.

The Xacobeo 2027 will play a prominent role in the budget, with a total allocation of 96.67 million euros. Planned actions include the Ultreia Xacobeo Fund, initially set at 9 million euros; 7 million euros for maintaining the Camino routes; and 3 million euros for the O Teu Xacobeo programme, which supports initiatives by freelancers, small and medium-sized enterprises, and local entities.

Through these investments, the Xunta aims to solidify Galicia's position as a more competitive, sustainable, and balanced tourist destination, enhancing business profitability and expanding the economic opportunities generated by tourism throughout the region.
